Richard “Jim” Piccione, M.D.


Dr. Piccione was born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana. He graduated from Acadiana High School and received his Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. He then received his Doctor of Medicine from L.S.U. Medical Center in New Orleans, LA. Upon completing his internship in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Earl K. Long Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA, Dr. Piccione went on to the University of Kentucky to complete his residency in Ophthalmology. He was then accepted into a fellowship program in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Once Dr. Piccione finished his surgical training in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus, he returned to Lafayette in 1997 to open his practice. As a pediatric ophthalmologist, he provides diagnostic and comprehensive evaluations along with medical and surgical treatment for children with visual problems. He is also trained and highly skilled to treat adults with eye muscle disorders.

Dr. Piccione is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, member of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, member of the Louisiana Medical Association and the Lafayette Medical Association. His community services include past board member of the Boys and Girls Club, past board member of Acadiana Center for the Arts, past member of Kiwanis of Acadiana and yearly projects with Acadiana Youth, Inc.

Dr. Piccione is married to Carol Ann and has three children, Caroline, Jack, and Nicholas.
